– Miben dolgozol jelenleg?
– Éppen egy hétrészes sorozatot csináltunk, amiben epizódszereplő voltam. Az a szörnyű, hogy, amikor az ember csak így beugrik, sokszor a címét sem tudja annak, amit épp csinál.
– Tizennégy évesen már szerepeltél egy magyar filmben. Hogy kerültél a filmezés közelébe?
– A Fagylalt tölcsér nélkül című filmnek volt a színészválogatása, amire poénból elmentünk a barátaimmal, és engem kiválasztottak. Kútvölgyi Erzsébetnek alakítottam benne a megnemértett kis kamaszfiát. Nagyon jól sikerült maga a film is és mindenféle díjakat nyertünk vele; a film is, Zsike is és én is. Aztán ennek köszönhetően a Családi kör-ben forgatgathattam, valamint beindult a József Attila Színházbéli szereplés is.
Pont mostanában dolgoztam Orosz Helgával, aki szintén benne volt Edward Albee: Mindent a kertbe című darabjában, olyanokkal együtt, mint Tordai Teri, Szilágyi Tibor. Jó kis csapat voltunk.
– Tehát a filmből következett a színház.
– Igen. Ráadásul a szinkron, ami a legmeghatározóbb része az életemnek jött a legkésőbb. 1993-ban játszottuk a Karinthy Színházban a Kakukktojást Cseke Péterrel és Margitai Ágival a főszerepben, és ott látott és hívott el Rehorovszky Béla, aki a Pannónia Filmstúdióban dolgozott. Bár az igazsághoz hozzátartozik, hogy legelőször nem nála, hanem Aprics Lászlónál szinkronizáltam A nagy Waldo Pepper című Robert Redford-filmben. Egy mondatom volt; egy fickó az árbocról valami olyasmit kiabált, hogy „Vigyázz!”
De a rendszeres szinkron Rehorovszky Bélának köszönhetem, és azt is, hogy megtanulhattam a mesterséget.
– Te is tömegezéssel kezdtél vagy egyből jöttek a komolyabb megbízások?
– Amikor először mentem ki, akkor az egy pici, egy-két mondatos szerepem volt. Lényegében ezzel kezdtem a kipróbálást. Viszont az teljesen természetes volt, hogy utána, aki szerette volna megtanulni a szakmát tisztességesen, az tömeget is vállalt. És, aki ügyesebb volt, az kinőhette magát onnan.
– Szeretted volna, hogy inkább a színház felé húzzon a karriered?
– Ha az ember őszinte akar lenni, akkor a színház a minden, de nem minden áron! Én egy kicsit 
kakukktojásnak érzem magamat ezen a pályán, mert nem a klasszikus utat jártam be. Nem arról volt szó, hogy a Főiskolán végeztem színész szakon – ahol egyébként mindig a második rostán gondolták úgy, hogy nincs rám szükség -, és utána kezdtem szinkronizálni. Persze, szeretném, ha lenne olyan színházi feladat, ami örömet okoz. Jó pár éve nem játszom már színpadon, mégis akadt egy-két olyan felkérés, amire én mondtam azt, hogy nem. Úgy gondolom, hogy inkább a szinkronban csináljak főbb szerepeket, mint színházban egy nyúlfarknyit, ami már nem okoz örömet. De jelenleg nem igazán tartozom azokba a körökbe, akikben gondolkodni szoktak a rendezők – remélem ez később majd változni fog.
– Mit szeretsz leginkább a szinkronizálásban?
– A szinkronnak van egy fantasztikus tulajdonsága; míg filmen vagy színpadon behatárolt az a jellem, az a figura, akit te alakíthatsz – gondolok itt az alkatodra, a beszédstílusodra -, addig a szinkronban ez nem igaz. Mert az ember a hangját adja, ami, ha játékos, akkor lehet akár egy kis maci hangja a rajzfilmben, ugyanakkor lehet például a Beverly Hills 90210-ben egy nagydarab, kosaras négeré – akit én úgy egyébként az egyhatvanötömmel nem játszhatnék el, és nem csak azért, mert nem vagyok fekete.
Aztán nyilvánvalóan ebbe is bele lehet unni, de ez természetes. Ha szívsebész vagy történetesen, akkor is lesznek olyan periódusok, amikor unni fogod a munkádat. De mindig meg kell próbálni megújulni, ami a szinkronban általában sikerül is.
– Találkoztál olyan színésszel eddigi pályád során, aki alkatilag közel áll hozzád?
– Bár nem a korosztályom, de tíz év múlva el tudnék képzelni hogy Robin Williams-t szinkronizálom. Nagyon szeretem a filmjeit, és őt magát is. Nagyon tud bohóckodni, ugyanakkor kifejezetten komoly dolgokat is művel – nézzük csak meg a Holt költők társaságát. Nem vagyok egy rajongó típus, de a külföldiek közül Robin Williams az, aki előtt meghajlok.
A magyarok közül Józsa Imrétől, Mikó Istvánon keresztül, Sztankayig bezárólag mind-mind olyan művészek, akikbe szívesen belelátná magát az ember tíz-húsz-harminc év múlva.
– Hozzád is inkább a komikus szerepek állnak közelebb.
– Hát, igen, nyilvánvalóan nem vagyok egy szomorkodós típusú emberke. Néha talán át esek a ló túlsó oldalára a hülyéskedést illetően, de ilyennek szeretnek a kollégák és a barátok.
Viszont, ha komoly dologról van szó, akkor bármikor meg tudok komolyodni néhány órára. Szoktam viccelni azzal, hogy a hétvégenként futó Naplóban olyan komolyan mondom az ajánlókat, mintha nem is én volnék. Vagy a még mindig futó és nagyon sokak által nézett Smallville-ben Lex Luthor, vagy a Hősök Peter Petrelli-je sem éppen egy vicces figura.
Ugyanakkor például a humoros Kaliforniába jöttemben – Will Smith sorozatában – Carlton karakterét kifejezetten kedveltem. Vagy nagyon érdekes a Nagy házalakítás-béli alámondás, amiből mostanában nagyon sok részt csináltunk – az elmúlt pár hónapban száz felett van a felvett epizódok száma. Ebben is megkaptam a nagyhangú, kiabálós, vicces műsorvezetőt, Ty-t. Szeretem egyébként, mert szép, megható történeteket mutatnak be.
– A Szívek szállodájában Jess-ként Milo Ventimigliá-t szólaltattad meg magyarul. Milyennek találod ennek a sorozatnak a hangulatát és mennyire ragadott meg téged?
– Fantasztikus, rendkívül emberi sorozat. Jó lenne egy ilyen magyar viszonylatban is. Tetszett,
bár szakmából adódóan nagyon ritkán nézek tévét.
Viszont pont a napokban elcsíptem a DunaTv-n a ruandai mészárlásról szóló Hotel Ruandát, ami nagyon megfogott – mert ugye igaz történet, nem is olyan régen megtörténhetett egy ilyen szörnyűség, és maga a film is jó. Ha olyan értékesebb műsort látok, akkor ott ragadok én is a képernyő előtt.
– Milo Ventimigliá-t szinkronizálod a Hősökben is. Szerinted fejlődött a két produkció között?
– Igen, mindenképpen, mert a Szívek szállodájában még egy kis tinit kellett alakítania, közben pedig eltellt pár év a Hősökig, ahol már egy egészen más jellegű férfiként tűnik fel.
– A Smallville szintén egy sci-fi sorozat, amely hatalmas rajongótábort tudhat magáénak Mennyire volt meghatározó számodra ez a szerep?
– Vannak olyan sorozatok az ember életében, mint a Smallville is, vagy a Dawson és a haverok, amelyek nagyon hozzánőnek a szívéhez. Talán azért is, mert igen hosszúnak tűnik az az idő, amíg dolgozunk vele – megcsinálsz egy évadot, kimarad egy félév, majd újra kezded. Ezt például 2002-ben kezdtünk, ehhez képest most 2008 van.
Az Amynek ítélve, ahol egy valamikori drogos orvost játszom, is azok a filmnek közé tartozik példának okáért, amelyeknek olyan jó a hangulata. Vagy a Grace Klinika, amelynek szintén van egyfajta bája, jók a karakterek, jól is csinálják. Szóval akadnak tényleg szerethető munkák.
– Michael Rosenbaum-ot, a Smallville Lex-ét egy másik filmben pont a sorozatbéli „ellenfeled” magyar hangja, Markovics Tamás szinkronizálta. Szerinted fontos, hogy a külföldi színészek a jól megszokott magyar párjukat kapják?
– Alapvetően igen. A legjobb példa a Minden lében két kanál Sztankayval és Láng Józseffel, amit hiába csinált meg jól Kautzky Armand és Szolnoki Tibor, mégsem volt az igazi. Ezért a nézők hatására visszakapták a jól megszokott párost.
– Szerinted milyen a szinkron megítélése?
– Én úgy látom, hogy nincs megbecsülve a magyar szinkron kellőképpen. Akkor lenne az, ha egyszer csak nem lenne. Pedig hát miért ne legyünk büszkék arra, ami jó? És a magyar szinkron még a mai felgyorsult világban is színes és jó tud lenni. Persze, a világ megváltozott, lett minőségromlás, de hol nem?!
A napokban beszéltem épp Hujber Ferivel a Valami Amerika 2 kapcsán, és szóba került, hogy Csuja Imre mekkorát alakít benne. Én annyira boldog tudok lenni, amikor emberek a helyükre kerülnek, mert például ő is egy olyan színész, aki annyira megérdemelte, hogy országosan ismert művész legyen.
– Sokszor vetődik fel, hogy kell-e szinkron, vagy inkább felirat…
– Én egyet gondolok: ha mindenki beszélne is angolul, németül, más idegen nyelveken, milyen ország lenne az olyan, ahol nem a saját anyanyelve szól a saját tévékből, rádiókból?! És sajnos nem készülnek hazai gyártású produkciók, műsorok olyan mértékben, hogy a külföldieket kompenzálják. Vannak unikumok, amelyeket őriznünk kellene és jobban megbecsülnünk. A magyar nyelv mellett a szinkron is egy ilyen.
– Rengeteg rajzfilmben működsz közre.
– Ó, azok mindig is nagyon közel álltak a szívemhez.
Most csináltuk épp a Tesz-vesz Várost. Abban én a kis kukac vagyok, akit egykor Józsa Imi szólaltatott meg.
– Te vagy az Animax (animéket sugárzó csatorna) hangja. Szoktál valamelyik manga sorozatban szinkronizálni?
– Igen, nem régiben fejeztük be a Monte Cristo-t.
– Ha a mesékben hallanak a kislányaid, meg szoktak ismerni?
– Igen. Nekik az a természetes, hogy apa megy a stúdióba dolgozni. Számukra olyan, mintha 
minden szülő ezt csinálná. De aranyosak, felfogják és megszokták ennek a szakmának a világát. Amikor olyan kisebb feladatom van, és épp nincs óvoda, néha el is kísérnek.
– Mi volt a legemlékezetesebb számodra ebben a szakmában?
– Hála Istennek az eddigi pályám során sok olyan emberrel megadatott együtt dolgozni, akik már életükben legendák voltak. Gondolok itt Sinkovits Imrére, Tolnay Klárira, Juhász Jácintra, Dobránszky Zoltánra, Pataki Imrére, Szakácsi Sándorra és Selmeczi Rolandra. Nekem az a legfontosabb, hogy ebben részem lehetett. És nem tagadom, jó lenne úgy leélni az életemet, hogy, ha még 75 évesen dolgozni fogok, a fiatal nemzedék közül valaki legalább úgy beszéljen rólam, hogy „a Szabi bácsival de jó volt együttdolgozni.”
– Kit ajánlanál legközelebbi interjúalanynak?
– Kútvölgyi Erzsébet, aki amellett, hogy a Vígszínház remek színésznője, fantasztikusan jókat szinkronizál. De sajnos nem igazán van ő sem jelen a köztudatban, ami szerintem szörnyű. Nagy szívfájdalmam, hogy vele indult gyerekkoromban a karrierem, de úgy alakult, hogy színpadon nem játszhattunk együtt. Néha persze összefutunk, de nagyon ritkán, pedig őt nagyon szeretem.
Sok olyan ember van ezen a pályán, aki megérdemelné, hogy jobban figyeljenek rá. Ezért is jók a magyarszinkron.hu-hoz hasonló oldalak is.
És, ha már a Szívek szállodáját említettük, jó lenne elbeszélgetni László Zsolttal is.
