A Pszicho hallatán a legtöbb embernek biztosan Hitchcock vérfagyasztó klasszikusának híres zuhanyzójelenete jut eszébe, ahol a csinos szőke lányt meggyilkolja egy rejtélyes öreghölgy. Ahogy kivilágosodik a színtér, a hírhedt motel hajában találjuk magunkat, recepciós pulttal, bőrfotellel, a falakon kitömött állatokkal. Középen pedig ott áll halványzöld neon-megvilágításban az a bizonyos zuhanyzókabin. A félhomályban megjelenő anya és fia abnormális kapcsolata már a nyitó párbeszédből kirajzolódik előttünk. Kettejük összetett viszonya az első pillanattól kezdve ott lebegteti a fejünk felett a gyilkos kést.
A történet szerint Norman Bates egyedül vezeti a szüleitől örökölt eldugott kis motelt, amelyen 
valahogy nem fog az idő és a modernitás. Még a műút is messzi elkerüli. A látszat ellenére az ódon falak mégis a tíz éve halottnak hitt édesanyával folytatott veszekedésektől visszhangzanak. Egy viharos estén csinos vendég érkezik Mary Crane személyében. Azonban reggelre nyomva vész. Lila Crane, Mary ikertestvére és Sam, a vőlegény – akihez eredetileg igyekezett a lány – szeretné mihamarább megtudni mi is történt valójában. De nem csak ők, egykori főnöke is ezzel a szándékkal béreli fel Arbogast felügyelőt.
A szereposztás figyelemreméltóan találó. Jánosi Dávid formálja meg a tudathasadásos sorozatgyilkost, Norman Batest, akinek neve egybeforrott rémtetteivel. Dávid kitűnően ötvözi egy megbomlott mániákus, egy felnőni képtelen, hisztérikus fiú és egy titkon normális életre vágyó férfi jellemvonásait. Egy percre sem esik ki a szerepéből, még akkor sem, amikor saját édesanyját kell eljátszania.
Andai Györgyi különleges, öblös orgánumával szintén bravúrosan alakítja egy személyben a végletekig kegyetlen nőt és a gyermekét rajongásig szerető anyát. Dobó Kata személyesíti meg mindkét ikernővért, Mary és Lila Crane-t. Maryként meggyőzően hozza a kicsit zavart, csinos titkárnőt, akinél van valami, ami egyáltalán nem az övé… Az igazságot kitartóan kutató Lila szerepében viszont kellően határozott.
Dózsa Zoltán egyszerű lelkű szögbolt tulajdonos karaktere önmagában maga a komikum. Ő az, aki feloldja az idegtépést és lenyomja a torkunkon az egész preparálást, az ödipuszi kapcsolatot és a sok-sok vért. De Bank Tamás öntudatos nyomozója is sziporkázva mossa el a határokat komédia és dráma között.
Meglehetősen nehéz feladat horrort meggyőzően színpadra állítani a különleges effektekhez szokott 21. századi szemek számára. Pozsgai Zsolt nem is szorítkozik kizárólag a vérfagyasztásra; ehelyett mesterien él a humor eszközével, úgy, hogy közben nem válik nevetségessé az egész. Ahol félnünk kell, ott valóban kiül a nézők arcára a kíváncsisággal vegyes rémület. De a mulatságos elemekre is épp úgy vevő a közönség és egyetlen poént sem hagy reakció nélkül.
A premier kapcsán beszélgettem Pozsgai Zsolttal, a nagyszerű író, rendezővel.
– A kecskeméti Katona József Színházban már bemutatta egyszer a Pszichot. Mennyire táplálkozott a Budapesti Kamaraszínházbeli rendezése a 2002-es előadásból?
-A kecskeméti előadás sokkal inkább igazodott a filmhez, mint a regényhez. A filmben egy krimit látunk, egy bűnügyi történetet élvezhetünk – a regényben azonban mindez a főhős lelkében játszódik le. Norman Bates annyira kötődik halott anyja emlékéhez, hogy kevés híján beleőrül – ám még mielőtt ez megtörténik egy kétségbeesett kísérletet tesz arra, hogy saját magában megölje ezt a kóros képet.
– A darabnak nem csak rendezője, de egyben szövegírója is. A dramaturgiai munkánál mennyire vette Robert Bloch írását alapul?
– Robert Bloch regényét ültettem át színpadra, annyira nyúltam az eredeti anyaghoz, amennyire azt a színház, mint forma megkívánta. Ha regényt dramatizálok, mindig az vezet, hogy az eredeti mű szellemisége jelenjen meg – ez a dolgom más író művével szemben, és ez nem csak dolgom, kötelességem is. Nem feltétlenül értek egyet azokkal, akik gondolkodás nélkül új, saját művet alkotnak valamely, már korábban megírt anyaggal.
– Azzal, hogy színpadra vitt egy olyan művet, amely a vásznon vált klasszikussá, milyen külön értelmezési réteget szeretett volna hozzátenni az eredeti történethez? Törekedett arra, hogy eltérjen a filmtől – például a humor bevonásával?
– A színházban az érzelmek sokszínűsége lehet érdekes, ebben az előadásban mindenképp. Igyekeztem felnagyítani a regényben is megtalálható humor-forrásokat, illetve az eredeti helyzeteket humoros formában átültetni. Szerintem a valódi emberi tartalmak és tragédiák nem létezhetnek humor nélkül. A humor vagy pihenő, vagy létszükséglet egy nehéz helyzetben.
– Ön szerint elégedettek lesznek a film rajongói a történet színházi adaptációjával?
– Aki a filmet keresi, az csalódni fog – illetve mást lát. Ez nem biztos, hogy csalódás. A filmet bármikor megnézhetem – ha ugyanazt keresem a színházban, nem kell feltétlenül elmenni. De aki valóban a film rajongója, és nyitott szívvel ül be a nézőtérre, szerintem úgy veheti észre, hogy az eredeti élményhez még hozzá is adott az este.
– A színdarab szereposztása igazán bravúrosra sikeredett. Melyik színész volt az, akiről azonnal tudta, hogy csak őt tudja elképzelni az adott karakterre?
– Jánosi Dávid már a kezdettől fogva egyértelmű volt Norman Bates szerepére. Nagyon örülök, hogy a többi szerepre is olyan művészt sikerült megnyerni, akik a legmesszebbmenőkig igazolták az elvárásokat.
– Milyen volt a közös munka a Budapesti Kamaraszínház művészeivel?
– Először dolgoztam velük, rendkívül családias, szeretetteli légkörben. Ez számomra rendezőként a legfontosabb. Sokféle rendező sokféle módon tud csak együtt alkotni a színészekkel – én a harmonikus együttes munka híve vagyok. Természetesen úgy, hogy a próbák kezdetére meg van a saját elképzelésem az előadásról. DE örülök, ha új ötlet, gondolat kerül elő, és beépül a végeredménybe.
– Elégedett a végeredménnyel?
– A legmesszebbmenőkig elégedett vagyok. De ez nem jelenti azt, hogy ez más számára is így kell, legyen. Ez az előadás a gyermekünk, elfogultak vagyunk vele, ez így természetes.
– Mely előadásokat láthatjuk még az Ön rendezésében az idei évadban?
– Jelenleg a veszprémi színházban rendezem a KAVIÁR c. Csiky Gergely darabot, majd a Tháliában ősbemutatóként a KIRÁLY ÉS A SZŰZ című történelmi abszurdot. Télen televíziós film forgatására készülünk, de ez legyen még a jövő titka…
Mind a horror, mind a színház szerelmeseinek kihagyhatatlan a Pszicho. Aki rajongott Hitchcock műremekéért, annak azért, aki pedig még soha sem látta Bloch világhíres skizofrén sorozatgyilkosának kegyetlenkedéseit, annak azért kötelező a Budapesti Kamaraszínház lebilincselő színházi feldolgozása.
